I came across this winter felt board idea a couple days ago, and this afternoon I spent a few minutes cutting out felt for our son. I have a bag full of felt scraps left over from my felt food project (I used some of it for the ornaments I made last month, but I still have plenty left for other little projects), and it took only about ten minutes to cut out everything that we used for this little activity. Our son was grinning the whole time – definitely a success!
I started with a blue piece of felt, and then just cut out a bunch of shapes to make a winter scene. We have a snowman and tree, a sled, a kid on the sled, a mom pulling the sled, and a sun and cloud – the possibilities are endless. I love felt. It’s so easy to work with, and projects like this come together quickly and with very little fuss.

After about an hour of playing around, and lots of rearranging, our scene looked like this:
This was a great way to spend a chilly afternoon with my little guy. Once his brother woke up from his nap, we made him a snowman too (he might not have appreciated it quite as much… he kept trying to eat the snowball shapes. Maybe they look like white cookies?). The whole thing fit neatly into a ziplock bag when we were finished, so we can get it out again tomorrow and play some more. If you have little kids and some felt scraps lying around, I highly recommend this project. Fun, easy, and free – hard to beat that combination!
