I just spent the whole morning varnishing the new shelves and doors we put in our new living room. My parents have gone home, so we’re on our own now. We’ve managed to do some work on the project every day, although we’re a bit slower than my parents. We’ve put in the baseboards and door frames, and I’ve put the first coat of varnish on everything that needed it. The can says three coats is ideal. It took me forever to do the first coat… The house looks like a tornado hit it. The couches are literally stacked on top of each other, so that we have enough room to work. There’s drywall compound on the floor and sawdust on everything. I’m really looking forward to just having the furniture in it’s place again. The new office is sweet though.
We decided to put a mirror on the wall of the new (smaller) living room, to make the space seem bigger. We had mounted wall lights on each side, and wanted to find a mirror to go in the middle. We had been checking out thrift stores but hadn’t found anything that seemed right. Then on Friday, we stopped at the local thrift store on our way to the hardware store. I looked at all their mirrors (ugly, and mostly $40 – $50), and we were about to leave when I saw another mirror wedged in behind some furniture. The first thing I saw was the beautiful light colored wood frame (very simple, matches our house, no carved flowers in the frame…) and the Crate and Barrel logo on the back. It’s about 3′ x 4′, and in perfect condition. And it was $10. I couldn’t believe our luck! I’m dying to put it up, but my husband has convinced me that we should wait until the room is done – I know he’s right, I’m just impatient. It’s a perfect mirror, and $10 is a perfect price. Yipeeee!
