My husband came across this idea today on a dad forum he visited – we thought it was fantastic and I wanted to pass it on. We set up a gmail account for our son, and I just sent him an email. I told him how much he weighs today (12 pounds!) and that he’s currently snuggled against me in the sling that my mother and I made for him last weekend. Of course I was a bit sappy and told him how much I love him – that’s what mothers do. I love this idea. How easy is it to send a quick email whenever you think of it? I’m a scrapbooker too, but that takes a bit more doing. I’m not going to whip out a scrapbook page in 2 minutes, but I can send an email whenever I’m at my computer. Someday our little guy will get to read everything we’ve written – all the little details of his childhood that might otherwise be forgotten in time. Gmail and Yahoo accounts are free, and it doesn’t cost anything to tell your child what you’re thinking today.

Awesome idea. I’m a little paranoid though — I’d copy myself also, files the emails to a folder and keep backups. If something happened to gmail and they lost the mail… oh, that would be a great loss.

What a great idea! I have forgotten what my first child’s baby steps, and now my second baby is 8 month old, I should use this idea. Thanks for passing on this idea!

FYI just make sure you log into your child’s account every once in a while. If not, it will close due to inactivity.
