Yesterday we went hiking with my brother and sister. It was a belated birthday celebration for me (I turned 29 a couple weeks ago), but this was the only weekend we could all get together. We hiked one of my all-time favorite trails, in the mountains west of the town where my brother and sister live. We took a picnic lunch at ate at the top – food always tastes better outdoors. We took our camera and my brother took some great pictures of me and my husband and our dog – Christmas card photo done for another year. Afterwards I noticed that I had a piece of spinach stuck in my teeth, since we did the pictures right after lunch. So it looks like the picture will get a little PhotoShop action before we send it out to everyone we know in December.
After our hike, we helped my brother and sister get ready for a dinner party they were hosting (they share a house) for a bunch of friends. Everyone else was bringing something to the party, so my husband and I went to the store with my sister and bought the groceries she needed for the dinner ($25). We had spent about $15 on food for the hike – kind of expensive, but we figured it was a special occasion. We also spent about $17 to fill up my gas tank yesterday. Kind of a pricey weekend for us, but we had an absolutely great time. One of my sister’s friends brought desert to the party last night – she showed up with chocolate cake batter and baked it while we ate dinner. Then she whipped out her ice cream maker which was full of homemade peppermint chocolate chip ice cream. Now that’s worthy of a spendy weekend!
