My husband and I are going to a fancy work reception next week. I looked through my closet and realized that the only even slightly dressy shoes I owned were a pair of flat sandals, and they pretty casual-looking. I am not a fan of heels, because I like to be able to walk without my feet hurting. But I decided to scout around Goodwill last week to see what I could find. For $15, I got a pair of Dansko heels that look like they have hardly ever been worn. I have a friend and a sister who swear by Dansko, and I knew they were good quality shoes (so did Goodwill, because most of their shoes were $7 or less). Now I have a pair of slightly dressy shoes that don’t hurt my feet. Score!
I had planned to wear a black dress that I already had in my closet, but this dress caught my eye while I was in the store, and it was $6.
So that’s my $21 outfit for our fancy reception. I’m pretty sure Macklemore has been following me around for inspiration all these years

Nice finds :) Recently my only nice dressy sandals died after 13 years of use (my mum bought them for my year 10 formal at school). I’d been on the lookout for some replacements in thrift shops ever since, and finally found some when I was in Melbourne for $5.50, along with some very nice boots for $9. Here’s hoping they last just as long!

All my fancy shoes are either Dansko or Aerosoles. You made the right choice! I love that you can actually walk around in Dansko fancy shoes and not hate yourself in the morning. I use my Danskos for work, even, so that I look nice and dressy.

I LOVE thrift shopping. It is the thrill of the hunt that gets me every time. Great finds! Have you tried online consignment retailer, ThredUP yet? They used to just have kiddie clothes, but now they carry women`s stuff too! Be sure to use code KPC35 to get 35% off + free Shipping if you are a new customer! You can score some really great deals this way…pennies on the dollar for really nice name brand clothes. Sometimes things are brand new with tags too. :)
