Printing Digital Pictures

July 21, 2008 By Frugal Babe

I’m trying to find the best deal on getting digital pictures printed.  Any thoughts?  I’ve used Snapfish, Flickr, and Shutterfly in the past, as well as taking my chip to Walmart, Target, and Costco.  Everyone has different prices – Shutterfly is good for 4 x 6 prints, but their 8 x 10s are a lot more expensive than Costco and Walmart.  I don’t want to drive all over town with my chip, getting different size pics at different places.  I love to scrapbook, and I just sorted out 100 shots that I want to print in various sizes for my son’s book (I know, he’s only 2 and a half months old, and I have way too many pictures already, and his baby book is going to be six inches thick, but I’m sure we’re not the first new parents to go a little overboard on pictures).  I’ve used so many picture printing services that they’re starting to blur in my head… so let me know your favorites – I need a good one that won’t break the bank.

I’ve also considered simply purchasing cheap ink online and printing my pictures on paper.  But this will also mean buying some nice quality photo paper, which will have to be factored into the price.

Paid Twice has been doing a lot of comparisons of this sort, check out her posts on the subject.

I don’t know what’s a good deal to you but Walgreens has some good prices from time to time and can mail your prints to you for a sort of reasonable rate
but no big sales on right now

We use Walgreen’s and have really like the price and quality of their service. We just ordered 90 prints and the total cost came to $11. That seemed like a good deal to us!

(Not sure when GC last checked, but we just got a $5 off for prints, when you place an order of $15 or more.)

I’m with the others. Walgreens frequently has good deals, and they are really quick as well. You can just upload them to their website online for free and print them at the nearest walgreens. Sometimes there is limits, but if you live in a place where there is more than one Walgreens close (there are 3 with in bike riding distance to me!) you can just send some to each one and still get the deal. Also, if you get a Sunday paper, there are always coupons in the coupon section.

I know that CVS currently has 50 prints for free when you sign-up…. they usually have good deals on it.

Thanks everybody! I live within biking distance of two walgreens, so I’m going to give that a try. Also, I got a tip on Twitter from Rants ‘n Reviews about using Adorama – I had never heard of them, but they have 5 x 7 prints for 35 cents, so I think I’ll try that one too. Glad I asked!

too bad my memory is fried, because the latest Real Simple had a chart comparing prices for various sizes. If you’re just getting 4×6 walmart was the cheapest at 9 cents, that I do remember!

Personally, I like matte finish and only certain companies offer that and only by mail order so I have to pay shipping.

I’d say do a quick search for promo/coupon codes!

Thanks everybody! I checked Walgreens, and they were still running the coupon for $5 off if you spend $15. I prefer matte pictures, and they only do those by mail (just like the other places I’ve tried). So I had to pay $6 for shipping. But I got the pictures for 12 cents each, as opposed to 15 cents if I had picked them up in the store. I got 114 4×6 pics, and 7 5x7s. Including shipping it came to $20. Not bad at all :)
