Thrifted LEGO Storage And An Update On Our Cell Phone Plan

March 13, 2013 By Frugal Babe

When we moved our boys’ toys downstairs to our new playroom, we tried to make sure that everything was organized, easy to find, and easy to put away.  Our older son loves LEGO, and can spend hours building all sort of stuff with it.  His collection is a combination of gifts from Grandma and stuff we’ve found at the thrift store.  Until recently, it was all stored in one big box, and frequently ended up dumped out on the floor so that he could find the pieces he needed.

And then I found this little set of drawers at Goodwill for six dollars, and everything is much better in the LEGO department around here.

All it needed was a scrub in the bathtub to be as good as new, but with a much lower-than-new price tag.

Our son and I organized all of his stuff into the various drawers, and it’s easy for him to find the pieces he’s looking for now.

Thrift stores and Craigslist are full of storage solutions, although sometimes you have to be patient and/or creative in order to get what you need.  But it certainly ends up being easier on the budget than buying everything new.

In other news, I wanted to write a quick update about our new $10 cell phone plan.  This is our third month with Airvoice Wireless, and we’re thrilled with the plan.  It works perfectly and provides more minutes than we need.  Until this month, the one downside to the plan was that they didn’t have an automatic renewal feature.  So each month, we had to log onto their website and purchase airtime again.  Starting last week, they now have an option to have your airtime automatically renewed each month.  There’s still no contract, but unless we cancel the plan it will keep on renewing for us now without us having to do anything more or keep track of how long it’s been since we renewed our minutes.  Based on our experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Airvoice Wireless if you’re looking for a low cost, basic cell phone plan and live in an area where they have good coverage.
