I rode my bike around town today, running errands. I stopped at the post office, and noticed an H2 sitting in the parking lot, with the engine running and one person in the passenger seat. Obviously the driver had gone into the post office and the passenger wanted AC. When I came out ten minutes later, it was still there, still running! I think those things get single digit mpg – would you really want to waste it sitting in a parking lot?
On the plus side, one of my errands was to go to the library with a batch of cookies for my friends there. I baked the cookies in our solar oven this morning – it was great to be able to bake without heating up the kitchen, since our AC has been running most of the day just to keep the house to 77 degrees.
We have family visiting this week from Ireland, and they commented on how cheap gasoline is here. It’s about $8/gallon in Ireland these days, which makes $4/gallon look like quite a bargain. I guess it’s all a matter of perspective.

bicycles = awesome money saver!
i try to ride to work at least twice a week, and i really notice how much longer a tank of gas lasts that way.
plus, after a couple miles of bike paths, i don’t need a caffeine jolt to wake me up-saves me $2.35 at stabucks!

That is just obnoxious, I would have wanted to throw a rock through their window! And I’d never heard of solar ovens, now I want one!

Ugh, that’s frustrating – I hate that people leave cars on like that. It’s polluting and a gas waster.
I love that you use a solar oven, I think I am going to look into getting one. Although Rochester in the winter doesn’t get much sunlight…

I always laugh at the people that complain on about gas prices, but allow their car to idle while they’re waiting!
